11/10 Introduction to Prescribed Fire

Date:
Thursday, November 10, 2022 - 10:00am to 12:00pm

INTRODUCTION TO PRESCRIBED FIRE Thursday, Nov. 10, 10:00 a.m. to Noon Forest fires are a natural part of living in Southeast Mississippi. Frequent, low-intensity fires are not just a normal part of nature but necessary for a vast number of plant and animal species to survive and thrive. “Prescribed fires”, or human-planned and controlled forest fires, are important as they mimic the natural fires our forests need. Extension Forester Butch Bailey will discuss the deep history of fire in our region’s forests, the modern history of mankind’s role in fire suppression, and how fire was finally accepted as a vital component of forest management. Registration is required. Cost is $10 for Arboretum members and $15 for non-members. Please call 601-799-2311 to register.
