Critters in the Compost!
Saturday, March 8, 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
Some have commented that while they like the idea of composting, they can’t stand the “bugs!” However, these “work horses” of the compost pile are important! They break down and grind up the dead organic materials, chemically reducing the debris down to the basic nutrients that plants need. In an earlier introductory session, Paul Andres outlined the physics and chemistry of basic composting, and in this program, he will address the necessity of animal life throughout the composting cycle. He will also go over the food chain – more properly, the energy chain – to illustrate how a balanced compost pile can be non-offensive and still highly productive. Discussion and questions are welcome! Paul is retired, with a strong science and math background, and is a lifelong gardener. Plants are a thread woven throughout his tapestry. Members $3, non-members $6.
Limit: 35 persons
