Strawberries & Cream Festival 2024

Bring your friends and family out to celebrate the history of the Crosby Arboretum’s former use as a Depression-era strawberry farm. Enjoy live music and giveaways, a children’s cupcake contest, fresh strawberries and ice cream and Picayune Frog Lemonade, and much more! The event will take place on the Pinecote Pavilion. The Crosby Arboretum Children’s Cupcake Decorating Contest, 2024! Strawberries and Cream Festival! 1 PM to 4 PM – Sunday, April 14th The Crosby Arboretum Picayune, MS 601-799-2311 ext. 0 This year’s competition will take place in the Loop near the Visitor Center. All Children ages 15 and under are welcome to participate. Cupcakes & supplies will be provided at the event. The challenge: children are to decorate a cupcake celebrating Native Mississippi Flowers. Be able to name the plant you have chosen and tell the judges a little bit about it when presenting your decorated cupcake to the judges. Our Master Gardeners will be on hand with knowledge and photos of native plants to help children with their native plant choice. Participants are to check-in with the Cupcake Staff at Cupcake Central on arrival (located in the loop near the Visitor Center). Each participant will be given a cupcake to decorate and will have access to decorating supplies. Children may bring their own decorating supplies if they wish, but this is not necessary. All cupcakes must be decorated during the Strawberry Festival in the supervised cupcake decorating area. Decorating begins at 1 PM and ends at 3 PM. Each participant must work be themselves with no help for anyone else. Verbal help and/or artistic assistance from others is strictly prohibited. The Arboretum will have pictures of native MS flowers for use by participants as needed. Participants may choose their native flower prior to the event. If you wish, go to the Arboretum website - crosbyarboretum.msstate.edu - scroll down, click on the orange box labeled Wildflower Center, and you can view native flowers there. The cupcakes themselves will not be judged. Only the artwork and knowledge of the native flower it is based on will be judged. Once the competition is over, each participant can take their cupcake home...or, eat them! Age groups: 7 years and younger 8 to 12 years of age 13 to 15 years of age Categories for each age group: • Best Artist – best use of the theme (Native MS flowers) • Best Presentation – knowledge and presentation of the flower chosen • Best Creativity – this is our “anything goes” award • Judges Choice Awards – 3 special awards per age group will be awarded by the Master Gardeners • One award for the “Best in Show” will also be given. AWARDS • All cupcakes must be completed by 3:00 PM (or earlier). • Awards are at 3:45 PM at Cupcake Central • Winners will be presented with awards. • Decision of the judges will be final.
